How do I find an SMP server that matches my play style?
Different SMP servers are better for different players. You can skim the description under each banner on our list and make sure the server actually supports the version of Minecraft you’re playing. After that pay attention to the basic rules and features stuff like whether PvP is on or off, if there’s land claiming, keep inventory, shops or an economy, how strict they are about griefing, and whether the world ever resets. If you want a relaxed community SMP, or just a Minecraft server with SMP where you mostly build with other players, you should look for one with land claiming and no griefing. If you prefer more action, pick a server with PvP enabled and lighter rules. Try a few IPs from the list and stick with the server where the rules and community feel right.

What is Minecraft SMP and how does it work?
Minecraft SMP, short for Survival Multiplayer is a survival world that runs on a server instead of your singleplayer save. When you join an SMP server you still mine, farm, build a base and explore like normal survival, you are just doing it alongside other players in the same world. Most SMPs are very community based and revolve around building houses and similar builds where players can live together without worrying. Some of the servers with SMP are vanilla with almost no plugins, others contain unique twists like custom texture packs, trails, cosmetics, fly, and player warps.
